Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Life would have been boring without relationships. Relationships exist when two or more persons come into a mutual connection and understanding such as there is between friends, girlfriend and boyfriend, employer and employee, mentor and protégé, husband and wife, family members, team mates etc. The list is endless. Of course it isn't possible to have a relationship with just yourself because the very essence of a relationship only comes into play when another individual is involved. I say this because quite a number of people have given up on relationships especially on that kind of relationship that requires them to love someone and to open themselves to being loved, owing to the the path their lives have trended in the past. Most of these people, as a result, have found themselves in loneliness, depression and despondency.

Truth be told, just as our passage of scripture today says, the number two is the number of agreement and being in agreement means the beginning of a better and a healthier life. My point exactly is this: Being together with a loved one or a bosom friend is better than being alone. Every one needs a shoulder to lean on, a partner to tag along with and a hand to hold them dear. So, let go of the past and embrace love and friendship again. However, make sure you learnt from the mistakes of the past. Take a notepad and reflect on where you've been and where you're coming from. Going through your past experiences, guided by God's Word, make notes of the things you should never forget and trust God to help you have better experiences as you open your heart by faith to receive the kind of love God desires you to experience.

Generally speaking, in the affairs of life we need partners. Let's appreciate the place of team spirit more. We need people. You make more impact when you do not work solo. I encourage you today to open up your mind. Join and create teams. Good success has a lot to do with recognizing the role that other people play. It's my prayer today that you'll see and understand that your life is better when you do not function as a loner. Do have a great week.

  1. Are there specific ways to get over the hurts of the past.spoke to one of my mentees yesterday and I realise that the reason she is so tied to her career now is because she is not sure she wants to commit to another relationship...

  2. Thank you Mrs Ebahi for your question.

Yes, there are specific ways one can get over a hurt of a past relationship. The first is to identify what caused the problem that led to the break-up of the relationship because just as a fruit is is gotten from a tree which is nourished from the roots,so also it is with every setback, trace the root cause and deal with it by learning from it. Also forgiveness is most important. Forgiveness isn't what we do for others, it's what we do for ourselves, He/she should forgive themselves as well as who ever wronged them. Lastly, choose to love yourself no matter what happens because no one, absolutely no one can love us more than we love ourselves. God bless you.
