God loves each of us as if there were only one of us." - St. Augustine
Matt. 16:26
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Today the world rounds off the period set aside to remember the birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For believers though, we celebrate Christ everyday. We live in the consciousness of His death, burial and resurrection, and what it has accomplished. As we know, Jesus' dying on the cross was to prove God's love for mankind. You know, God's love is not just general but personal. It's true that God loves all of us but God does not just love all of us, much more than that, He loves each of us in a personal way. He is drawn to each one of us in His love as if no other person exists. This kind of devotion and attention is needful in our homes and relationships today. We need to learn how to relate with our partner, spouse, children etc. on a very special personal way. Sometimes when we generalize, we screw things up.
Why does God love us in a personal way? I believe one of the reasons is because He understands the worth.. of each individual soul He made. The scripture focus today shows us that the soul of one person is far more important than the entire world put together. This is one of the reasons we say if there was only one person in the world, God would have sent Jesus for that one person. God treats us very specially; He's passionately unashamedly devoted to our well being. He let's us know that He values us more than the world He created. How will our relationships turn out when we show our partner they are far more important than the world? How will they respond when we do not just tell them but show them by the priority we give them that their value is more than the value of the whole world?
As we grow in love let's help people discover their value. Some people have been beaten down and bent over by the circumstances of life. Others have been so abused, confused, misused and refused that they do not see anything good in themselves. One of the things love does is that it helps people see their worth and value. It helps people know they are important in the scheme of things. It helps people discover and recover their royalty. it brings out the king and the queen in others. Love talks to you as if you're a king. It talks to you as if you're a queen. Love is a lifter. It does not matter where your partner has been or how they've been, where they grew up or how low they have been beaten down in life by circumstances, now is the time to help them see and appreciate their worth and value. Help them grasp the fact that they are worth more than the whole world put together. That was what Jesus came to make us aware of. This is love's assignment.
