Lord, grant that I might not so much seek to be loved as to love." - Francis of Assisi

Acts 20:35
...remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Each of us knows that receiving feels good. We all know what good things are and when we are at the receiving end, it's such a great feeling. Naturally, we want to be the ones being given to but Jesus has brought us a new awareness, that greater blessings come to us when we're the ones giving than we get when we're being given to. This is also true in matters of love. It is only natural to find people having great ideas of how they want to be loved and treated nice by their spouse and other people. There's nothing bad in having such desires. It's common. To operate on a frequency that is not common, you'd have to carry a different set of desires.

I have heard a lot of preaching on uncommon favour, uncommon wisdom and uncommon blessing. I believe I have an understanding of how to receive such things. By placing other people's need for love before ours, we position ourselves for an uncommon flow of blessings. Do not make receiving love the focus in your relationship. Focus on giving love to your partner. Go beyond what other people consider to be the norm. In loving your partner, set love goals for yourself and do not quit till you achieve them. When you've achieved them, set even better goals. Do not wait to be loved by your partner first. Do not wait to follow their pace. Let your love for your partner be fervent and ever increasing.

As the opening quote shows, we need to constantly ask God to help us understand that we are not the focus. We need to rely on Him to strengthen us in being selfless. Praying helps us stay on track when it comes to loving the way we should. We live in a world where people place the priority on themselves. Everyone has an idea of how they want to be loved. Most of the movies that claim to teach love show you what the love you are to receive should be like. Almost none tells you how to focus on loving others. This is one of the reasons for LOVE ISSUES; to provide that education. God is love and as a child of God, this nature of love is your nature. This is why you can make your partner the priority. This is why we can love the unlovable. Love is on our inside. All we need do is allow it flow.
