"A part of kindness consists in loving people more than they deserve." - Joseph Joubert
Gal 5:22-23
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
"Dear Lord, I've got to be more eager to show forth love even the more". Those were the words I had in my mind some days ago after I was reminded of a weakness I have and I was desperately looking for the next opportunity to show love to someone in a grand way. Well, don't get me wrong. It's not that I haven't been used to loving people (actually it's more like a lifestyle or a part of me to live a life characterized by love) but the thought of having to overcome this particular weakness made me even more conscious that I have to love people more than I've ever done. Very shortly after I prayed an opportunity presented itself that indicated my prayer had been answered. But I barely even took notice of the huge opportunity I had right in front of me to go all out and show love, perhaps because I was too familiar with the person in question.
I became sad over the fact that i'd lost a privilege. After I got myself together from the sour feeling, I asked God for yet another opportunity telling him I would make it count this time. He did give me another. He stirred deep down in my heart while queuing to get into a banking hall. A lady needed help in getting into the bank and I was glad to render her the assistance. After I did it seemed as if some beautiful music just burst in my soul. Whooosh! I felt a huge relief and said a prayer within. Then it came to me that often, to love people, one has got to do it with a kind of spontaneity. This spontaneous response though originates from a constant made up mind to love irrespective of who the person is, whether a blood relative or just an individual walking down the street. It was as though a light bulb was switched on in a dark room when suddenly i realised that achieving this was possible with one very simple shade of love - kindness.
Kindness starts with caring, being compassionate and tender hearted to others, not just in actions but also in words. Sarcasm has gotten the better part of many people these days but i wish all such people would realise that it really hurts others and doesn't please God. Kindness is what we do for others, not for ourselves. Some people reading this may judge themselves to be very wonderful people when it comes to being kind. That might be true to a good extent but the truth remains that no matter where you are, you and I can use a little more kindness. We can season our words with kindness. That's what it means to be sweet when you talk. We can season our actions with kindness. That's one of the meanings of being the salt of the earth. Kindness begins in our minds i.e we've got to change how we see ourselves. We've got to see ourselves being sweet and kind to people. Can you see yourself being kind to others? If you can, now go do it.
Keep Loving,Keep Living.............LOVE ISSUES.
