"Christmas is the perfect time to celebrate the love of God and family and to create memories that will last forever. Jesus is God's perfect, indescribable gift. The amazing thing is that not only are we able to receive this gift but we are able to share it with others on Christmas day and every other day of the year." - Joel Osteen
Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV)
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on his shoulders And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
The season of Christmas is really an amazing season. You see those who truly understand the meaning of the season expressing the joy of Christ and even those who have no clue what the true essence of the season is, flow along as if they do. Christmas is a time when people celebrate and rejoice as we all remind ourselves again that God came to us as a human being. It's a fine season for joy and to think of those we love and should love. It was God's love for the world that made Him come to us as one of us. This period is also seen by many as a holiday season. The world generally accepts it as a good time to take a break from your work, business etc, to catch some fresh breath, to be refreshed and rejuvenated. This also is consistent with the fact that among other things, Jesus came to usher us into God's rest.
Some others see Christmas as a time for sharing and receiving gifts alone. For others, it's a time for trying out a lot of different cuisines and eating many types of pastries and trying out different drinks. Now all these different views of Christmas are not necessarily bad in themselves but they are useless if the main purpose and reason for Christmas isn't established in your heart. Jesus didn't come to satisfy your physical hunger; He came to quench your spiritual thirst and to satisfy the hunger in your soul. At Christmas the world remembers that Jesus was born. For us, we remember this everyday. But this period is a good time to impact the world again with the revelation of Jesus Christ. Christmas is about Christ Jesus, God's remedy for man's malady. As much as celebrating is not out of place, I believe this season of Christmas is for reflections, a time to teach, inform and remind people why it's truly celebrated. It's a time for people to know that God is love and that there was an incarnation of this perfect love. It's a time for us to be this love.
God came to us as a human being. He was born into this world and He grew up as every other child into an adult. He walked and talked on this earth everyday, showing people love in very real ways. Christmas is a time to remember that God in His love left His splendour and identified with us in our mess. Without the birth of Christ Jesus, there wouldn't have been His death, resurrection and ascension. There would have been no sanctification and purification of man from sin and death. Jesus' death brought hope alive for the eternal destiny of every man. Christmas reminds us that we don't have to perish without God. Christmas is a time to show great gratitude to God and to rekindle our devotion and commitment to our heavenly Father and other people, especially believers. Christmas is not about Christmas. Christmas is about Christ. So, let the love of Christ fill your heart this period. Extend it to others, reminding them of the reason for Christmas, God's Love. Remember the sick, hurting, homeless, imprisoned and destitute. See them through God's creative value because Jesus came for them too.
Keep Loving, Keep Living.................LOVE ISSUES
