LOVE'S CULTURE

And this is His commandment: that we should believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and should love one another, just as He gave commandment.


I'm glad God gave me the assignment to teach about love. Love, God's love, really does make all the difference. How I wish we can all come to see that any step outside love is sin. If we want to live righteous lives, we need to embrace love much more than we have ever done. The reason why there is a lot of boasting and self projection in our day and time, is because there isn't much value placed on love. There are people who know they have a problem with pride and would really want to live free of it but they don't know how. Here's how: Love. This is how we overcome Satan's attack against us. Satan attacks us by making us project self. On the other hand, love makes us take a humble profile; it renders Satan powerless. When you love, you see yourself through God's eyes, not as useless but as someone who has the same value as everyone else. The same price was paid by Jesus on the cross for us all. Love makes us see others as being just as valuable as we are.

In this age, those of us who believe in Jesus do not function as those who lived under the law of Moses back in the Old Testament. Our relationship with God isn't based on those rules and regulations they lived under in those days. But we do have a commandment today, a commandment that isn't burdensome. In the verse today's post is focusing on, John the apostle brings our attention to this commandment. I think this verse bears reading ten times. I find it so beautiful to know that after believing in Jesus, the other thing God requires of us is to love one another the way Jesus told us to. Love is a lot greater than we realise. It will take us farther than we know. Many have neglected love and have tried to work out their relationship with God some other way. No, that doesn't work. Love is the way to go. Love is the way to live. Believe in Jesus and love people, this is our God-given task.

God's Word is like the gas station where you go and get the gas tank of your car filled. His Word will fill your heart with love. By interacting with the Scriptures we get inspired to love like God does. We get fired up to live this life that the world does not celebrate. Love is the culture if Heaven. The world we live in wishes they can have it but functions by another culture. You and I however, are here to bring Heaven on this earth. We're to practice our culture, Heaven's culture, here in this world. What helps us do this is staying in the Word of God. Smith calls it yielding to the Word.
