"Love doesn't give a person what they deserve, but what they need." -Unknown

Galatians 6:2 (NET)
Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

There is so much misunderstanding about love even among Christians, the very people who should understand it better than anyone else. Love isn't about you and what you want. It's about the next person and what's best for them. It's about your spouse/partner and what's best for him/her. Today's quote sends the message home. We have the law court instituted to give people what they deserve. That's not the function of love. Your relationship/marriage should not be run as a law court. No matter how much one looks like they deserve to have what they deserve, love looks at the person and determines to give them something much better. Of course, we're not saying it's wrong to pass a sentence in the court of law and to punish evil. There's a place for justice. What we're saying is that your home and your relationship is not a law court; you're in that home and in that relationship to look past people's failures and to stretch out a hand of hope to them.

I have a friend who used to be very unreasonable, arrogant and many times unfriendly. Many people drew away and lambasted him for his kind of person. But I decided to just show him the kind of love that I saw his heart lacked. I decided to give him a good taste ofJesus. Today, several years after, I am a song in his mouth. He keeps telling people how much he respects me and how much he appreciates the fact that I stood as a blessing to him in spite of the fact that he didn't deserve it. I'm always encouraged by his testimony. Love changes people. We do not have to repay people in their own coin. Yes, you can keep being better to someone than they are to you. You can look past their obvious failures and minister true love to them in heavy torrents that will change their lives forever. This is the Jesus kind of life.

Usually people are burdened with all sorts of things. There are often all kinds of issues going on with people. There's unrest in their souls. When you capitalize on what they're not doing right, you're judging them. Yes, they deserve to be judged and many times, even to be sentenced. But that's not what you're going to do. There's a power in showing people better than they qualify for by their actions and words. See them as deserving all the love you can push in their direction because God sees them as special. Look at people through their creative value, not through their current or regular mess. Look at people through God's eyes. See them the way God sees them. Remember they have burdens. Hurting people hurt people. They act the way they do because they are not at rest within. When you show them love, you're easing their burden. This is how you carry their burdens. Don't be judgmental when you can very well be supportive.

P.S: It's my pleasure ti inform you that yours truly is participating in the on-going MY BIG NIGERIAN WEDDING competition 2015.

It started in November last year with over 140 couples in the first stage.
