"Falling in love in a Christian way is to say, ’I am excited about your future and I want to be part of getting you there. I’m signing up for the journey with you. Would you sign up for the journey to my true self with me? It’s going to be hard but I want to get there with you." - Timothy Keller.
Genesis 2:23-24 (NET)
23 Then the man said, “This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”
24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and unites with his wife, and they become a new family.
Hmmmm, that feeling that comes with what is generally referred to as 'falling in love' can be very overwhelming. Some are so fascinated because in a nutshell, it makes them think they've been asleep all their lives and then, suddenly, for the ladies, it's as if your Knight in shining armour just gave you the kiss of life. It appears as if some kind of energy enters your soul similar to the radiance which the early morning sun ray gives when it comes through white satin curtains into a room. I sure know you understand what I mean. Many ladies have experienced this and they describe it in different ways. I also have but as I grew older and got wiser, I acquired the knowledge of some vital truth about this thing called love. As a result, my horizon on the subject broadened
I so love today's quote. Many will make a big deal arguing whether as believers we fall in love or not. But what's important to me is that the author of the quote expresses his opinion of what he believes the Christian kind of falling in love should be. Now, if you ask me, I have every cause to believe and accept his position. A deep look into what he says helps you see that it's not all about the rosy feelings that come with the falling in love euphoria. Rather his quote shows love is an act of the will. It helps you appreciate the fact that love is a lifelong commitment to partner with someone throughout their lifetime, helping them be all God ordained them to be.
The day marked as Lovers Day is just less than 24hours away and as usual, many will engage in regrettable and shameful things as they'll be celebrating this day based on their own understanding. But for us who know better, God has given us an understanding by which we live. No doubt, as every other day, it's a day to show love. So, it's a good time to make a proposal to that lady you have chosen and for the married to rekindle their love, commitment and dedication to each other. For me, as the Valentine's Day draws near, I’d love people to understand that every day should be a day in which we express genuine love to all, including those who have special places within our hearts. A time where people can rekindle their passion for the things that matter most. It should also be a time when the married, those intending to be married soonest and indeed everybody, give others a reason to continue in life because of the love showed to them through your kindness. Remember life and love are never about you but about you enriching others.
In summary, whatever way you have planned to celebrate, always remember that for true love to be fully expressed and enjoyed, one has got to know and have a relationship with the One who created love and has it as His nature. Until you do this, you can't give love to others in its purest form. If you haven't planned to celebrate the day, that's okay also. There's no big deal. Find someone who's in need and make life better for them. Saint Valentine didn't create love, God did. The world didn't create love, God did. So, do it God's way. It’s a call today to think about this and then, let Jesus Christ, God's Son and the only savior of the world, come into your heart by His Spirit. It's the only way you can know what true love is and how to give it to others.
