"This Sunday School has been of help to me, greater perhaps than any other force in my Christian life, and I can ask no better things for you than that you, and all that shall come after you in this great band of workers for Christ, shall receive the same measure of blessedness which I have been permitted to have." - John D. Rockefeller

Malachi 2:15 (TLB)
You were united to your wife by the Lord. In God's wise plan, when you married, the two of you became one person in His sight. And what does He want? Godly children from your union. Therefore guard your passions! Keep faith with the wife of your youth.

A whole lot is running through my mind as I prepare this post. There is a reason why I have used today's quote and the particular passage of scripture we're using today. First of all, let's look at the quote. The author of today's quote, John D. Rockefeller, was a very successful man. In today's money, he was worth at the time of his death at least 600 billion USD (600 billion U. S dollars). He was a devout believer in the Lord Jesus and a man of strong Christian faith. The wealth of the first 40 richest people in the world today combined, does not amount to the money that this man was worth. God didn't only bless him with wealth, He was also blessed with longevity. He died at the age of 97. What made this man tick? In his own words as we see in his quote, he credited his blessings in life to the things he learnt from Sunday school. That is, he traced his success and accomplishments back to the lessons learnt from the Word of God. In the past few centuries, no single individual has been as wealthy as this man was.

In his quote, Rockefeller goes on to talk about all those who will come from you, your offspring. He wishes you all to experience from the wisdom of God's Word, the same blessings he did experience. His words make me remember the statement Joshua made. Joshua spoke of how he had decided that he and his family would serve the Lord. A marriage confers a responsibility on the couple involved. God wants the couple to bring forth children who'll be taught His ways. That's why our text shows us that what God seeks when two persons come together in marriage, are godly children. Are you a father or a soon-to-be father? Are you a mother or a soon-to-be mother? God seeks godly children from you. Marriage is about making your family a school where the ways of God are taught and imbibed. Your home should be the first school for this purpose, and then the regular gathering of believers where your family attends (your church).

Make up your mind today to raise godly children. You would have to work at it, not just pray about it. You'd have to draw up a plan. God wants to change this world from your home. So, decide with your spouse on ways to fulfil God's desire. If you're about to get married, this is one of the areas both of you should be making plans about. In Genesis 18:19 we find recorded this statement that God made about Abraham , " For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him." Wow! What a statement from God! Can God say the same of your home and mine? This is what God would like to say concerning all couples. Abraham's household, including his immediate family and all those who lived with him, was a school. He taught them the ways of God. The lives of the members of Abraham's family and the life of John D. Rockefeller show us what blessings accrue to those who diligently apply themselves to learning the ways of God. Let's make our families and homes a school where we learn more and more about God.
