Sir and Ma, Please let's get to meet you.
We are Mr and Mrs Emeka and Joy Nobis. We were both born in the city of Owerri.
Joy: Emeka's parents are from Oru-West and Orlu L.G.As of Imo State. Emeka is a Writer and Thought Leader.
Emeka: Joy's parents are from Owerri and Enugu L.G.As respectively. Joy is a Fashion Strategist.
For how long did you know your spouse before you got married? For how long have you been married and what was it that made you marry your spouse?
We met in 2004 for the first time in our church. We became just friends and then later became serious in 2005. I proposed to her on December 22nd, 2006 and we got married on November 22, 2010. We've been married for 4 years and counting.
Emeka : I married her because of her love for intellectual stimulation and spiritual sagacity. She has firm moral and family values.
Joy : I got married to him because of his non-cultural approach to issues, non-stereotypical approach to life and his attention to spiritual issues.
If you had an opportunity to address a conference of single people, what are the most important things you'd want to tell them?
Don't spend time frolicking. It's a given that the hormones will throb and you'll want to engage in sexual adventures.
Here's the truth : if you don't feel the heightened sexual energies while knowing your spouse, it's a pointer that your sex life may not be spicy.
On the flip side, spend time assessing your compatibility - social inclination, family values, personal aspirations, fears and spiritual leanings and exploits. Life will spring surprise, so fortify your emotional muscles.
If you could rewind your age to become young and single again, what would you have done better?
Hahaha. We are still young o! We are 35 years - both of us. If we were to reverse our ages back to 24, we'd have planned better for the direction of our careers. Time seems to be choking us as we try to juggle family life and career pursuits.
On the setting of financial goals, we'd have started out on investment options to plug in for the future. Finances are a very crucial part of family life.
Tell us about that one thing that has helped make your home and your marriage strong?
Simple word: Trust! We are in the boat for the long haul and not a hitch-hike. Trust helps us weather the winds that flap our marital sails.
It's killing not to take your spouse's word for it. It is a continuous work because we all have tendencies to falter.
It is said that everyone faces challenges. What and what have you applied to overcome the challenges you've faced in your marriage?
Waiting out the storm. We lost our first two babies due to medical complications that weren't treated well. God didn't make sense at the time. However, we woke daily feeling that just like the graze one experiences from time to time, our hurts would heal.
Putting time into out careers has also been challenging. Whenever we find time to relax together, we maximize it. We watch soap operas together, especially Telemundo soap operas.
How important is marriage to the fulfillment of God's purpose in this end time we live in?
Marriage is important. In this era where the definition of marriage is becoming skewed by those who kick against God's original design, the Christian families should know that it is a tough call.
Children learn very convincingly from their parents, from their actions and words. It behoves us now to hrlp them navigate the world we have found ourselves in.
The dissection and dissemination of God's word to them has become more challenging now and must be embraced with fervour.
Many marriages are at the verge of a separation/divorce, right now, what's your advice to couples in that situation?
We've seen couples go through divorce. Delving deep into some of the causes, it becomes an acceptable solution. At that point of when the knell of finality on the union is being finalised, it is quite a tough call to do otherwise.
However, we'll advise a reassessment of the situation. Sometimes, some couples have drawn back the curtain by a simple flashback to the events that brought them together in the first place.
What are some of the things you both enjoy doing together for fun and leisure?
We watch soap operas together, especially the ones on Africa Magic Showcase and Telemundo. We hang out in exotic restaurants from time to time. We throw comedic jabs at ourselves. We visit relations and also social events.
Making love between the hours of 2 and 5 in the morning adds to the spice of our marriage.
Finally, what will you want to tell those in godly relationships expecting to be married soon?
You've almost gotten to the finish line, metaphorically speaking. That line is the starting point for another life of adventure. Hold on. Don't dip your resolve to stay resolute. Wouldn't it be awesome to have a white veil over her face on the said day? You bet!
Thanks for having us.
