"Obsession is not an indication of love." - CEO
2 Samuel 13:2, :15
2 Amnon became so emotionally distressed that he fell sick over his half-sister Tamar. She was a virgin, and Amnon found it difficult to do anything to her.
15 Then Amnon hated her with intense hatred. In fact, he hated her with a hatred greater than the love with which he had loved her. Amnon said to her, “Get up and get out!”
I thank God we have God's wisdom delivered to us in a book called the Bible, else we'd have no guide in this dark world. Today's quote is short but striking. The circular world makes us believe that when a person is so all over us, then we have found someone who loves us. We hear songs people compose for their lovers talking about how miserable they'd be without them and how that they are the only reason why they find life worth living. Basically, the world says if a man is obsessed with a lady, if everything he thinks is about her, then that lady has found the love of her life. This lie comes in different shades and forms. Today however, I am on a mission to disabuse your mind, if you had bought into that before.
Friends, it's possible for a person to be all over you and yet not love you. A person can be head over heels in their longing for you and yet not love you. Yes, a person can even think they love you and still not love you. The story in the Bible of what transpired between Amnon, King David's first son and Tamar, his sister from a different mother, speaks volumes to us all. I recommend you read it at least twice today alone even if you're familiar with the story. It's found in 2 Samuel chapter 13. Amnon could not control his so called state of having "fallen in love" with his half-sister. He eventually raped her and found that what he thought was love didn't come from his heart. My dear reader, when a person is all over you, be careful. It may be a sign of lust, not love. Christian ladies and men in our generation need to appreciate this.
Ladies, remember that you are more than your body. We thank God for good looks and for the gift of beauty. However, that a man cannot coordinate himself because he's madly in love with you, is not proof that you have seen that special someone who'll love you forever. As a matter of fact, you shouldn't look for someone who's crazily in love with you. Their current obsession does not prove anything worth taking to the bank. Never forget this: True love grows gently but infinitely. It may start slow but it will rise to become strong and will bring great intensity as it develops. True love is willing to wait. On the other hand, lust (false love) is usually intense at the onset. It appears strong pretty quickly and burns aloud but does not have the ability to sustain the tempo. My dear reader, you want a love that grows stronger by the day. You want a love that rises taller and taller. You want a love that will be sweeter several years down the road. True love is a living thing; it grows. The indication of love isn't obsession but the characters of love listed in 1 Corinthians 13.
Keep Loving, Keep Living...............LOVE ISSUES
