Response: We are Rev and Pst Mrs Deji and Seun Olabode. I was born in Nguru, Borno State ,Northern Nigeria. My wife was born in Igbo Ora, Oyo State. We are both ministers of the gospel.
For how long did you know your spouse before you got married? For how long have you been married and what was it that made you marry your spouse?
We knew each other for 8 years before getting married and we courted for 2years before getting married. I married her because she was and is my best friend. She claims she married me because my presence in her life gave her direction.
If you had an opportunity to address a conference of single people, what are the most important things you'd want to tell them?
Rev. Deji: I would want to tell young people to marry their best friend under God's holy guidance.
Pst. Seun: My simple message to single people would be that they never turn their backs on God. One of the worst experiences I ever had in my life as a single was when I had to drop out of medical school. I felt so bad that despite serving God He would make me go through such a challenge. As a result I let go of God but I soon learnt that a person without God is by far worse than one with Him. I was faced with a lot of issues but God turned things around as He says in Rom. 8:28. He allowed that distraction make me fulfil destiny because I met my beloved husband in that process and I have never for one day had regrets because he s all I ever prayed for.
If you could re wind your age to become young and single again, what would you have done better?
Rev. Deji: If I could live life all over again,I would have abstained from pre marital sex and marry as a virgin.
Pst. Seun: It's important for believers to know that the avoidance of PS is their responsibility as empowered by God. Don't get yourself in a condition that will make u susceptible to sin. The practise of abstinence will happen if one is sincere with themselves. Go to open environment to prevent temptations from happening. Your confidence should be in God ands his word. Also, ladies watch out how you dress. Your dressing should glorify God and beautify you.
Tell us about that one thing that has helped make your home and your marriage strong?
Mutual friendship and mutual respect has been the cornerstone of our marital Success.
It is said that everyone faces challenges. What and what have you applied to overcome the challenges you've faced in your marriage?
The force of prayers and faith has been instrumental to our victory over life's challenges.
How important is marriage to the fulfillment of God's purpose in this end time we live in?
Marriage is important because it fosters a sense of responsibility in us based upon the commandments of God's world.
Many marriages are at the verge of a separation/divorce, right now, what's your advice to couples in that situation?
Rev. Deji: Provided the sin of pathological adultery is not involved. They should seek out counsel and alter their behaviour to make it work.
Pst. Seun: First God should be at their centre. The Bible says a threefold cord cannot be easily broken. With him things will go well because there are a lot of things people do that I also do yet some of those marriages have issues. Secondly, communication is paramount because it breeds intimacy which in order words means into-me-see. Change is the only constant thing and every couple needs to steadily communicate so as to be in-tune. Also, attend seminars, read books so as to learn from people's experiences rather than have a bad one. Lastly learn to compromise. Good marriages get better when each of the couple let the other have what they believe is best.
What are some of the things you both enjoy doing together for fun and leisure?
We both enjoy making love, communicating and taking long walks.
Finally, what will you want to tell those in godly relationships expecting to be married soon?
I will tell people waiting to get married to prepare more for the marriage than for the wedding. The wedding is for a day, the marriage is meant to be forever.
I thank you for you.
We thank the Senior Pastors of Royal House of Grace for sharing with us such invaluable words. Worship with them every sunday and Wednesday in Hall 4, Silver Bird Cinema, Ikeja City Mall, Lagos, Nigeria.
