To love another person is to see the face of God." - Victor Hugo
1 John 4:7-8 (NKJV)
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
We have established here in past articles that it's generally accepted that there exists four different forms or expressions of love. They are: Phileo, sterego, eros and agape in the Greek. When translated to English we know them as friendship love, brotherly or family love, romantic love and unconditional love. As I read the opening quote, it dawned on me again that agape is the main source of love (agape is the very definition of true love) while the others are just offshoots and subsets of it. Loving people as we should and as directed in God's Word tends to place us in a position where we get to experience so much.
When we choose to love our others to the proportion that Christ has loved and does love us, we begin to make the world see God in us. We might not be able to literally see the face of God but His face shines on us and through us when we love the brethren. Scriptures calls anyone a liar if he claims to love God whom he has not seen when he does not love his brother whom he has seen. This further explains that the love for the people around you at any time (shown through kind gestures and words) proves one's love and regard for God. There are many things in our present day that appear to truncate the possibility of showing true love; hence, leading a life marked by true love only takes being courageous, determined and dedicated to God.
Many people claim to know God but those who really know God do not have to claim that they do. Without being loud about it we can see it in them by the way they live and the way they show affection towards others. People all over the world yearn to be loved. When we love people unconditionally and unflinchingly, we bring them into raw contact with the very heart of God. People want to see God in us. This only happens when we allow love flow like an ocean out of us; our faces become the face of love. Let's go beyond merely talking about love and start living love. Let's go beyond preaching to reaching the hearts of people. Let people be so blessed by you to the point that they nickname you love. Let's quench the thirst for love in the hearts of the people around us. Let people see Love's face in your face.
Keep Loving, Keep Living...............LOVE ISSUES
