THE KING'S BRIDE 3

After Queen Heather learnt about the plot against her people and knew where it was coming from, she was disappointed. The whole evil plan was being masterminded by Lord Gerald, a highly placed official in the king's government. He was Princess Jenna's twin brother who had threatened to flush Queens Heather out of Appleton if she accepted the crown as King's Tailor's Queen. Knowing the power of Lord Gerald in the realm and the risk involved with dealing with him, she was even more disturbed. Lord Gerald was a very influential man in Appleton and also the third in command, a position he held since Princess Jenna was betrothed to King Tailor.

Lots of time was passing as she kept considering what to do. The plot against her people was nearing maturity and execution by the day. The queen's uncle kept her informed of how strong the plot had been developed and of the schemes the Brian's behind it had put in place to execute this evil agenda. Queen Heather knew she had to do something to save her people and she had to do it fast. The only option she had was to get across to the king but he was unavailable at the time. It was the period of the annual meeting when the King met with all the top officials, other kings and powerful men of his province and neighbouring provinces. Women were not invited to this meeting and being an exclusive meeting, it was a taboo punishable by death for anyone other than those summoned to show up in that place.

Queen Heather thought to herself, "If I do not do this now, Lord Gerald will finalize his propaganda and execute all my people in the next four days." She was troubled and decided she had to do something drastic even if it meant risking her life to save her people. She sent word to her uncle and friends admonishing them to take heart and pray for her as she was going to see the King in the midst of his meeting and request for his favour to end the plot. Doing this meant her life was at stake because the law didn't bend for anybody. God was either going to come through for her or she would never live to tell the story.

It was to be the last day for the Kings executive meeting and a hectic one at that. They were making conclusions and final decisions concerning all the matters they had tabled. Suddenly they heard a knock on the door. The room went silent. Everyone was stunned as they all looked at one another. While they were still imagining if that actually happened, there was another knock. Now the king was getting angry and a little embarrased. Filled with rage, he ordered the door to be opened just to see the person who had the courage to violate an age-long custom and tempt his wrath.

The door flew open and there stood his queen. The others in the room gazed in shock and silence as they understood what having a woman appear there could mean. But immediately the king stood up, his anger disappeared and he lifted up his right hand to show she was welcome. With a smile on his face, he beckoned in her to come. Not only were all the officials surprised, they saw how much the King loved and cherished her. When she got to him, she knelt before him and with a low voice, asked that he come to a special feast she had put together for both of them and Lord Gerald.
