"Jesus was love walking on the earth and talking with men. He didn't come to show us what love looks like; He came to show us what love is." - C.E.O

Phillipians 2:3-5 (NET)
3 Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself.
4 Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well.
5 You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had,

As I sat in the congregation, I was glad I had made it to the Sunday morning service. Yeah, I was. Earlier that morning I had almost welcomed the thought that I could stay back in my place and do some personal worship, listening to gospel music and some messages. Well, that's not a bad idea but it's doing the right thing at the wrong time. Nothing equals sharing fellowship live with fellow believers. Here I was in the service and didn't know what to expect. I was just happy I had come to the gathering of God's people and I knew He would minister to me the strength I needed for the new week and the new month. The service came to an end and I was so glad I didn't miss any part of it especially the message and the video clip that was aired. For me, those were the high points of the service. The video was about the story of Christ and how he was sentenced to death in place of a notorious rebel called Barabbas.

As I watched closely I began to understand why Christ was sentenced to death by crucifixion, the dreaded death sentence at that time. Apart from the fact that it was all in the plan of God Almighty, there was no better person to explain to us that Christ was taking our place other than the terrible rebel and murderer who deserved death by all means but suddenly found freedom because an exchange took place. This exchange demonstrates and explains the wealth and depth of God's love to everyone, no matter the state they could be in. God's love is extended especially to the hopeless and helpless, those who feel they deserve the worst to happen to them because of what they've done. God is merciful to those who don't deserve it. Time and time again, I have had reasons to back out on this life of true love I choose to live because trust me, loving people who do not care a bit about you or your welfare can really be frustrating. Some people look straight into your face and tell you you're such a fool. Yes, doing things God's way can make people think you're stupid but it's not always fun when they mistreat you and despise you. Although I know the answer, several times I have asked myself, if true love really means accommodating all these insults. Does choosing to give God glory necessarily mandate me to go through all these?

As I watched that piece I got just what I needed, not only the strength to continue undaunted but more importantly the understanding that every time I continue loving despite people's response I fulfill the word of God in today's focal text. Jesus was dead to self. If He wasn't He would have quit before He got to the cross. Think about it, men were insulting, physically abusing and taunting their maker. Jesus could have proved a point but He didnt. Only being dead to oneself can produce such love. Watching that I realized I needed to die more to myself. I needed to think more like Jesus. Love cannot be expressed in its depth in our lives until we die to self and forget about our self dignity. Jesus stripped Himself of His high class reputation in order to please God. This is the message of true love. Only the power of God's Spirit can produce such a life in us. My friend, Christ loves you so much and wants to pour His love into your heart. Give him a chance even if you feel you're not worth it, He won't mind. He will help you all the way. You won't have to struggle, just let him. If you're like I was, faced with serious challenges and being heavily tempted to quit loving others, please do remember that for every thing you do to show love, the host of Heaven is backing you and cheering you all the way. You're next in line to be celebrated.
