A Bride's Love Story......
Emmanuel and I had always seen each other from a distance. We never said a word to each other, never had a reason to talk with each other. But we did see from a distance like yeah, that's the young man from church and vice versa . This continued until the first Broken Veil Annual Meetings of Heritage Assembly, a ministry head quartered in Benin City, Edo State.
The Lagos branch hosted for that year and other churches came to Lagos from all over Nigeria and overseas. I and he eventually made arrangements to see the next day as he was familiar with my friend. When we met the following day, we exchanged phone numbers and even though he often tried to communicate with me, I didn't respond much because at the time I wasn't even interested in being or settling in Benin City or in dating someone who resided there.
He didn't press for anything but just kept on being my friend. Prior to this time, I had spoken with a close friend who advised me to give him a chance. With time our conversation got better despite my not always responding to all his calls and chats. All these didn't discourage him. He didn't even think in the direction of a relationship then neither did he chat or talk about it at all. I guess it was all just happening in my mind. Lol
We met one on one for the first time after the program and exchanged pleasantries. He offered to drop me and my friend off at our place on the island in Lagos after the programme that night and drove us home like the gentleman that he is.
A year went by and I travelled to Benin City for a friend's fathers burial. As I got into Benin from Lagos on a Friday evening, I met him and we talked. He recounted how I don't reply his messages. He talked of how he's always trying to keep in touch but I don't etc. I calmed him with just one word from my mouth, 'I'm so busy.' Surprisingly he just understood and kept mute. I was really thrilled at the way he responded. Hmmmn.
After that encounter, our communication got deeper. We would chat for long periods and he would call frequently. I encouraged him this time as I always picked his calls and looked forward to them. It was really fun. We talked about everything and anything.
On one of those days, he mentioned to me that he would like to relocate to Lagos. Wow! It was as if he knew that was my problem. Immediately, that aspect was settled in my mind. The next time we had a chat, I started to expect he would talk in the direction of asking me for a green light (if you know what I mean) because at this time, I had become fond of him as a friend. He was a different and special brother, one who loves God and had a heart filled with agape love.
However, he didn't go in that direction when I expected it, only for him to just do so before he said good night. He asked me, "Would you like to have a relationship with me that would end up in marriage?" I told him to give me some time. He obliged, and we said our good nights. By the next morning I started to wonder why I didn't give him an answer that night, so I called him up and gave him the obvious answer immediately and here we are today, happy as man and wife.
In between this time and the wedding, A lot happened but thank God for today. Men discouraged us, we quarrelled, argued, tried to quit but somehow stayed to fight for what we both believe true love is - a decision and a choice. Here we are today!
What a lovely story from this beautiful bride. Congratulations Mr and Mrs Emmanuel Okochu. God bless your union.
